Handler Notes
Overall Progress Today marks Homer’s 10th and final day of training. Over the two weeks, Homer has made steady and positive progress. He has become more familiar with the training routine and is showing better engagement with his handler. He is more responsive to instructions and is able to focus for longer periods than when he first started. Homer is an energetic and enthusiastic dog and can still have moments where he is stubborn or easily distracted. However, he has shown that with consistency and clear direction, he can refocus and work through these moments. Basic Commands Homer has developed a better understanding of his name, sit and stay commands. His response to “sit” has become more consistent, and his “stay” has improved as we have gradually increased the duration. Continued practice around distractions will be important to make these behaviours more reliable. Leash Walking Homer has shown some improvement with leash walking over the 10 days. He can still pull when excited or distracted, but he is more responsive to his handler and is beginning to understand the importance of walking calmly and following direction. Regular walks at home will be important to continue this progress. Ball & Fetch Homer enjoys ball play and has become more engaged with his handler during these exercises. We have continued working on encouraging him to return the ball and release it to the handler. This remains an area that will benefit from continued practice. Recall Homer has shown improvement with recall and is becoming more responsive when called. He can still hesitate when distracted, so recall should continue to be practised in a safe and controlled environment before adding more challenging distractions. Impulse Control & Socialisation Homer remains very enthusiastic when meeting people and can become excited by his surroundings. Throughout the programme, we have worked on helping him pause, listen and redirect his attention back to his handler. He has shown improvement in his ability to refocus, although impulse control will need continued reinforcement. Exercise & Stamina Homer has adapted well to the increased activity over the 10 days. His stamina and ability to remain engaged during training have gradually improved. Regular walks and controlled exercise will help maintain his fitness and support his continued focus. Recommended Home Training To maintain and build on the progress Homer has made, we recommend continuing with: * Name response * Sit and stay * Calm leash walking * Recall * Fetch and return * Impulse control * Calm greetings with people * Regular walks and controlled exercise Keep sessions short, positive and consistent. Homer will benefit from clear instructions and following through with the requested behaviour. Final Trainer’s Notes Homer has completed his 10-day training programme with positive progress. He is more responsive, more familiar with his commands and better able to focus on his handler than when he started. Homer is still an energetic character and can have his stubborn moments, so consistency at home will be particularly important. The foundation has been established during his 10 days, and regular reinforcement will help turn these behaviours into reliable everyday habits. Well done, Homer, on completing your 10-day training programme!Photos & Videos — Day 5
